Petrified Pine Cones

These collector-quality fossilized pine cones are from Cerro Cuadrado in Patagonia, Argentina.  These were dug and exported prior to the Argentinean law forbidding this.  These are Jurassic cones, which mean that they are about 150 million years old.  The genus of the pine cone is Araucaria mirabilis.  Many of our fossilized pine cones, featured in these designs,  were purchased from Frank Daniels, a major collector, photographer and author of two exhaustive books on fossilized cones and woods. Find more information on his website https://www.westerncoloradopublishing.com/

Paired with Oregon Sunstone, these ancient pine cones are set in 14K gold with an 18K bezel & pine needle accents.  These pieces may be worn as a pin or a pendant.

Oregon Sunstone

Oregon Sunstone is one of the more handsome gemstones that
are mined in this country. Colors range from a delicate peach to
a fiery red-sometimes with green mixed in. What set’s these
Oregon sunstones apart from sunstones found elsewhere are
the copper crystal inclusions that give it its unique color variances.

We purchase many of our sunstones from our friends Judy and Jolene,
who mine their uncle’s claim in the high desert of southern Oregon. Their
little caterpillar tractor pushes the earth into “push piles” and then a backhoe is
used to pick up the earth and transfers it to a hopper where it is taken
by a belt to a double shaker screen to sort the stones. After they have
worked an area it is graded back to restore the desert.

Great Lake Dunes Postage Stamps

This morning as the wind whipped and the rain poured down, hundreds of people gathered under the tent erected at the base of the Sleeping Bear Dune Climb for the First Day of Issue ceremony put on by the USPS.
10th in a series of the 2008 Nature of America Issuance these stamps depict the flora and fauna of our area.

A special cancellation post mark has been designed for the Glen Arbor post office that is only available until Nov. 4th, 2008.  This special post mark was inspired by a photograph taken by Mike Buhler (from Leelanau Roasting Company) of his nephew running down the dunes.
We are so excited about this honor to our community that we are designating 500 of our personnel Becky Thatcher Design postcards, attaching one of these beautiful new stamps to each and having them cancelled here in Glen Arbor with the limited time postmark.

If you are interested in receiving one of these postcards email us your address to sales@beckythatcherdesigns.com or call us at 231-334-3826 and we will mail one to you.
